Exciting school project for Gillespie

This highly creative project at the Rednock School involved the formation of a dramatic three storey, egg shaped ‘pod’ within the school premises. The construction was based around a new steel framework, onto which Gillespie built a metsec framework fitting plasterboard around the egg shaped structure. Gillespie took on the challenge of producing the complex drawings incorporating curves on a sequence of different planes, and then taking the drawings through to the manufacture in GRG and on-site installation. Gillespie finished all the exterior edges around the windows, doorways and top and base levels in curved GRG, leaving surfaces ready for the painting and final finishes.

The Gillespie teams worked in close cooperation with other contractors, finishing the project comfortably within the 4 month schedule. The end client was Gloucestershire County Council via Sir Robert McAlpine, main contractors.
