Trafford Centre, Manchester

Gillespie received an award for their GRG contract in the Trafford Centre. The traditional design might have suggested the use of fibrous plaster but the elements were so large that Zerodec GRG was much more appropriate. Gillespie were able to manufacture the huge cornice, cove, pilasters and brackets in complete sections.

The coffered barrel vault was assembled with large panels, each comprised of six coffers, enabling rapid installation with minimum joints.

The degree of repetition of these elements meant the tooling cost was spread over a large quantity of panels resulting in the economic production of a seemingly costly design.
